Lucent intros a high-capacity access solution.

Lucent Technologies (NYSE NYSE

:LU) has announced a highly scaleable, multiservice access gateway that enables service providers to deliver voice and data services to twice as many subscribers as Lucent's previous access platforms.

The Lucent AnyMedia Line Access Gateway is a new broadband and voice access platform that is optimized and scaled for business customer growth and residential applications. Since it is equipped with open switch interfaces and a unified network management system for both voice and data, less equipment is needed, allowing the consolidation of switches in the network. This enables service providers to reduce network-operating costs while preparing for the future of packet networking.

KT, Korea's largest service provider, is the first customer to deploy the AnyMedia solution in its network. "We are moving quickly into packet-based, next-generation networks, and the AnyMedia Line Access Gateway is an early and integral part of our network evolution plan," said Jeong-bong Kim, director of Network Planning and Coordination Group of KT, South Korea's largest communications service provider A Communications Service Provider or CSP is a company that transports information electronically. The term encompasses public and private companies in the wireline, wireless, Internet, cable, satellite, and managed services businesses. . "The new Lucent platform reduces our networking operating expenses by consolidating network components and simplifying network operations."

The system has multi-service capabilities that supports both voice applications, plain old telephone service (POTS) and integrated services digital network Integrated services digital network (ISDN)

"The AnyMedia Line Access Gateway is an important complement to the existing AnyMedia Access System product family," said Will Engler, vice president and general manager of the Broadband Access Group at Lucent Technologies. "The addition of this new AnyMedia solution enables Lucent to meet any market's need and helps our customers prepare for the evolution of their networks."

The new AnyMedia platform also enables service providers to offer new revenue-generating residential services, such as enhanced voice and messaging services, high-speed Internet, broadcast television and video-on-demand. The platform also supports video conferencing and multiline voice over IP (VoIP) services for business customers.

The Lucent access platform utilizes the Lucent Navis AnyMedia Element Management System (EMS)--a single, integrated management software tool that provides flexible control over all AnyMedia devices and associated service offerings. The AnyMedia EMS is part of Navis iOperations, Lucent's open, standards-based portfolio of Network and Element Management Systems. The Navis iOperations portfolio is deployed worldwide, supporting provisioning, surveillance and performance management of advanced services across multi-vendor, multi-technology networks.
