Lucent and BroadBand to supply key components of TELUS' multimedia trial installation.


RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK Research Triangle Park, research, business, medical, and educational complex situated in central North Carolina. It has an area of 6,900 acres (2,795 hectares) and is 8 × 2 mi (13 × 3 km) in size. Named for the triangle formed by Duke Univ. , N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 27, 1996--TELUS Corp. has selected Lucent Technologies Canada and BroadBand Technologies Inc. to supply key networks components and integration services for TELUS' interactive multimedia trial scheduled for mid to late 1997. The $60 million project will bring broadband services to over 3,400 selected households in Calgary and Edmonton on a trial basis. This initiative will help TELUS TELUS Telemetric Universal Sensor  determine the kinds of new communications services customers want, as well as provide valuable information about operating and maintaining a broadband network.

This contract award comes on the heels of a recent announcement by Bell Atlantic of the selection of Lucent and BroadBand to supply the key components of their switched broadband network A communications network that provides connectivity across a large area at high speed.  deployment in the mid Atlantic Mid Atlantic can mean:
  • The middle of the Atlantic Ocean
  • The Mid-Atlantic Ridge
  • The Mid-Atlantic States
 region. Bell Atlantic's investment could total several hundred million dollars in these networks which are expected to pass two million homes. Lucent and BroadBand have teamed up in other broadband network installations in North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere.  including the system implemented for Southwestern Bell in Richardson, Texas.
