(NASDAQ:JNPR) today announced that the companies have been selected by UKERNA (the U.K. Education and Research Networking Association) to provide the routing equipment for a 10 gigabit per second (Gbps) network, known as JANET, to support a wide range of broadband services for universities and education establishments in the U.K. Under the five-year framework contract between Lucent and UKERNA, Lucent will deploy and maintain the network routers, which will be based on core routing infrastructure from Lucent's global partner Juniper Networks.

For the project, Lucent will supply UKERNA with Juniper Networks T-series core IP (Internet Protocol See Internet and TCP/IP.
