Lucent Technologies to Deploy Juniper Networks T-Series Routers for Next-Generation JANET Network.

--Lucent to Supply Routers for the 10 Gigabit Per Second Backbone Network for UKERNA, the Publicly Funded Organisation Responsible for the Operation and Development of the UK's Research and Education Network, JANET

Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) and Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:JNPR) today announced that the companies have been selected by UKERNA (the U.K. Education and Research Networking Association) to provide the routing equipment for a 10 gigabit per second (Gbps) network, known as JANET, to support a wide range of broadband services for universities and education establishments in the U.K. Under the five-year framework contract between Lucent and UKERNA, Lucent will deploy and maintain the network routers, which will be based on core routing infrastructure from Lucent's global partner Juniper Networks.

For the project, Lucent will supply UKERNA with Juniper Networks T-series core IP (Internet Protocol) routing platforms designed to support broadband services nationwide, with points of presence in London, Bristol, Reading, Warrington, Glasgow, and Leeds. At the core of the network will be the Juniper Networks T640 Routing Node.
