It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  frequency band based on CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band. 2000 1X technology. The expansion, completed by Lucent in late June, will enable Delta to significantly increase its voice and high-speed data services coverage.

For the SKYLINK network expansion, Lucent has provided its Flexent CDMA2000 1X base stations and increased the capacity of the Lucent-supplied mobile switching center A switching center is a node in a telecommunications Circuit switching network which is connected to either another switching center and/or to end user devices. Switching centers are aware of other centers and possible routes between them such that on demand a center can establish . As a result, the SKYLINK mobile voice and data services are available throughout the Karelian Isthmus Karelian Isthmus, land bridge, NW European Russia, connecting Russia and Finland. Situated between the Gulf of Finland in the west and Lake Ladoga in the east, it is 25 to 70 mi (40–113 km) wide and 90 mi (145 km) long.  and in a number of additional cities in the vicinity of St. Petersburg. The SKYLINK network was launched in St. Petersburg in December 2002 and initially covered the city and its suburbs. Its subscribers get high-quality voice services and data services at speeds of up to 153 kilobits per second (unit) kilobits per second - (kbps, kb/s) A unit of data rate where 1 kb/s = 1000 bits per second. This contrasts with units of storage where 1 Kb = 1024 bits (note upper case K).  (kbps). With CDMA2000 1X cell phones connected to laptop PCs or personal digital assistants (PDAs) SKYLINK subscribers are able to download and forward e-mails with data-heavy attachments, browse the Internet and securely access corporate Intranet resources.

The CDMA2000 1X standard, operating in the 450 MHz frequency band, is an approved mobile technology for deployment in Russia where this spectrum is currently used by older analog NMT-450 cellular networks. CDMA2000 1X, a 3G standard approved by the International Telecommunications Union See ITU.
