Lucent Technologies Introduces Enhanced Version of the Stinger(R)

Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced that it has signed an extension of the frame contract with Telekomunikacja Polska for delivery and installation of xDSL broadband systems in TP's network. Under the terms of the extension, Lucent will supply and install its broadband access systems, including the new Stinger(R) Micro-Remote Terminal (MRT)-48A, the smallest access concentrator with the highest-port density in the market.

In July last year, the companies concluded an agreement according to which Lucent has supplied Telekomunikacja Polska with solutions from its Stinger(R) digital subscriber line (DSL) access concentrator family, customer premise equipment (CPE) CellPipe(R) subscriber devices and DSL NavisAccess(TM) Management System. The Lucent solutions are used by TP to provide high-speed Internet access services to both residential and business customers. Working together, Lucent and TP have delivered and installed several thousand Stinger(R) DSL ports, enabling TP to roll-out high-speed Internet services in several major Polish cities: Gdansk, Katowice, Krakow, Poznan, Warszawa and Wroclaw. The contract extension has been issued for the Polish cities of Bydgoszcz, Lodz, Opole and Szczecin.

The Stinger(R) DSL access concentrator family, with the introduction of the Stinger(R) MRT-48A, is specifically designed to help global carriers extend the reach of their serving areas. The Stinger(R) MRT-48A offers carrier-class DSL access tailored to service providers' needs with easy adaptation to local telephone service splitter requirements, enabling them to deploy services in any indoor or outdoor location in a flexible and reliable way.

The new version of Stinger(R) MRT, introduced for the first time in TP's network, is an ideal solution for space-constrained applications, such as street cabinets, remote terminals or multi-tenant units. Its "pizza box-size" and simple installation enables service providers to increase revenue opportunities by offering new services in previously cost-prohibitive markets. The CellPipe(R) IAD (Integrated Access Device) Modem Family provides VoDSL (Voice-over-DSL) services. From four to 16 telephone calls and data transmission can be simultaneously supported by the same xDSL.
