Lt. Governor Candidate Mehiel Shows Strength in DRC Straw Poll.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- In a vote affirming his wide range of support, Dennis Mehiel had a strong showing at the New York Democratic Rural Conference straw poll. The event, held March 23rd at the Schenectady Ramada Inn, brought together state Democratic Committee members from 41 counties. Straw votes were slated to measure support for the governor, lieutenant governor, comptroller, and attorney general hopefuls.

"We're excited about the tremendous show of support we have seen at the DRC Straw Poll," said Mehiel, "We've worked incredibly hard to build a strong grassroots following across the state. This vote confirms that urban and rural areas are beginning to respond to our message."

The DRC straw poll victory is evidence of mounting momentum for Dennis Mehiel. In recent weeks Mehiel has received the endorsement of the Hudson Valley Democratic Chairs and the Saratoga Democratic County Committee. Additionally, Mehiel is expecting to receive the formal endorsement of Albany County Executive Mike Breslin and State Senator Neil Breslin within a few weeks.

Schenectady County Democratic Committee Chairman Christopher Gardner, who also endorsed the candidate earlier this week noted, "Dennis has been an extremely effective businessman and humanitarian and is a wonderful choice for Lt. Governor. His companies have created and saved more than 10,000 jobs. Additionally, his efforts have helped place many welfare recipients in unionized manufacturing jobs." Gardner concluded, "As more people learn Dennis Mehiel's story, his support will only continue to grow."

According to Mehiel, the candidate has been traveling throughout New York State to share his reasons for seeking nomination for Lieutenant Governor. He stated, "This election is about putting our economy back on track, making our educational system work again, protecting the environment and fighting to provide greater access to affordable health care. I am both confident and excited about what we can collectively accomplish towards each of these goals and look forward to bringing this message to more and more New Yorkers."

Mehiel concluded, "I'm very pleased with the support we have received. This straw poll is significant because of the influence of rural and upstate voters in the race for governor. A strong showing among these groups is critical in order for the democrats to take back the state house."
