Low pulp demand, layoffs.


An international decline in the demand for pulp has caught up with one of the industry's oldest producers.

Marathon Pulp Inc., which employs about 300 people, shut down for two weeks last month to deal with excessive inventory. About 60 per cent of the workforce at the 55-yearold plant, were affected by the temporary layoff. Most were expected to take vacations during the work stoppage stoppage - /sto'p*j/ Extreme lossage that renders something (usually something vital) completely unusable.
