Air Berlin

Air Berlin Passengers Rise 15 Percent. German budget airline Air Berlin carried 15 percent more passengers in July than it did a year earlier, it said on Sunday, lagging larger rival Ryanair, which posted a 23 percent increase. Air Berlin said it had 1.61 million passengers last month, compared to just under 1.4 million a year earlier. Its load factor rose 1.79 percentage points to 85.67 percent, also trailing Ryanair, which filled 90 percent of its seats last month. EasyJet Sees Slower Growth. Low-cost airline easyJet said on Monday it expected capacity growth to be slower this year but maintained its forecast of a 40-50 percent rise in profits despite high fuel costs. The company also reported a 11.3 percent rise in July passenger traffic and said its load factor was 90.4 percent of capacity last month. It said full-year revenues and costs would be slightly higher than expected but capacity growth would slow to 13 percent this year. Analysts said easyJet had wound back its growth plans due to problems crewing its aircraft. In its third-quarter trading update, easyJet repeated a forecast made last month of pre-tax profit growth for the full year of 40-50 percent. SkyEurope, a budget airline based in Bratislava, is to introduce seat selection on all it services. Introduced last week passengers are able to book their seats when the reservation is made. Price for the new service will be E5 per pre-assigned and will be charged if selected together with the flight. Even passengers booking by phone can take advantage of the process, the reservation staff trained to explain where on the aircraft there is availability. SkyEurope Airlines was founded in September 2001 and now offers a network of 73 routes to 37 destinations in 19 European countries, with its fleet of 16 Boeing 737 aircraft.
