AirCell, Virgin America Virgin America is a U.S. based low-cost airline that began service on 8 August 2007. The airline's stated aim is to provide low-fare, high-quality service for "long-haul point-to-point service between major metropolitan cities on the Eastern and West Coast seaboards".  

AirCell entered into an agreement with Virgin America to provide broadband Internet See broadband.  service to passengers aboard the startup's Airbus A319s and A320s. Passengers will be able to access the Internet using either Virgin America's "Red" IFE Ife (ē`fā), city (1991 est. pop. 262,000), SW Nigeria. Located in a farm region, the city is an important center for marketing and shipping cacao. According to tradition, Ife is the oldest Yoruba town (founded c.1300).  system or their own Wi-Fi-enabled laptops or other portable systems while in flight. AirCell and Virgin America will integrate AirCell's broadband service See broadband and broadband service provider.  into Virgin's IFE system, AirCell said, noting that the service will be available aboard the entire fleet "sometime in 2008." Southwest Airlines

Southwest Airlines says 609 employees accepted buyouts. Southwest Airlines says 7% of eligible employees have accepted a buyout offer that includes a $25,000 cash payment plus health and dental benefits. The offer had been extended to 8,500 workers as part of a larger company effort to cut costs. The airline said the program's intention was to lower costs by encouraging senior high-paid employees to take voluntarily leave. It said staff totals will stay relatively static as it plans to replace nearly all of the bought-out workers with younger employees earning lower wages. The majority of the departing employees (395) worked in reservations. Pilots and mechanics were not offered buyouts. The workers who have decided to participate in the program will leave their jobs between Sept. 30 and April 30, 2008. Sep 12, 2007

FAA officials say Southwest flight 614 was en route to San Diego Wednesday morning, but the pilot couldn't get the landing gear to come up after taking off.
