AirTran Airways AirTran Airways is a low-cost airline that is a Delaware corporation with headquarters in Orlando, Florida, USA and is a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings. AirTran operates over 750 daily flights throughout the eastern USA and the Midwest, including over 270 daily departures from

AirTran Airways will add four flights between Indianapolis and Florida, filling a gap left after the decline of ATA Airlines ATA Airlines, Inc., formerly known as American Trans Air, is an American low-cost scheduled service and charter airline based in Indianapolis, Indiana. ATA operates scheduled passenger flights throughout the US mainland and Hawaii, as well as military and commercial charter . Frontier Airlines said its fiscal second quarter earnings will be lower than forecast as a result of the August terrorist threat. The company earned $4 million in the quarter ended June 30. Southwest Airlines promoted Senior VP-Enterprise Spend Management Bob Jordan to executive VP-strategy, procurement and technology and named Senior Management Committee and Executive Planning Committee member Ron Ricks as the new executive VP-law, airports and public affairs. Both will report to CEO Gary Kelly. It also promoted Chief Development Officer Jan Marshall to VP-technology and Chief Information Officer and Director of Application Architecture Kerry Schwab to VP and chief technology officer. Southwest Airlines

Southwest's first-come, first-served seating may stay. An experiment this summer to decide whether Southwest Airlines should forgo its first-come, first-served seating policy yielded mixed results. "Some boarding methods were a little faster, most were a little slower," says Southwest CEO Gary Kelly. He says the airline will likely continue research and make a decision next year. Oct 9, 2006

Virgin America

Virgin America unveiled its first aircraft, an A320 named Jefferson Airplane, yesterday in San Francisco in a ceremony attended by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. The startup, which has leased 34 A320s, still has not received a go-ahead from US authorities while potential US competitors challenge its citizenship, claiming that real control rests with Richard Branson's Virgin Group, not US investors. The unveiling indicated the carrier is "ready, willing and able to fly," CEO Fred Reid told reporters in attendance. DOT is expected to issue a ruling in January.
