Meridiana, Eurofly

Meridiana is buying a 29.9% stake in Italian leisure carrier Eurofly. Olbia-based Meridiana, which is majority controlled by Prince Karim al-Hussayni, the Aga Khan Aga Khan (ä`gä khän), the title of the religious leader and imam of the Ismaili Nizari sect of Islam, originally bestowed by the Persian shah Fath Ali on Hasan Ali Shah, 1800–1881, the 46th Ismaili imam, in 1818. , is acquiring the shares from Spinneker Luxembourg. Milan-based Eurofly was established with a 45% shareholding by Alitalia in response to the flag carrier's desire to develop the leisure travel market and launched operations in 1990. AZ acquired full control in 2000 and sold its stake to Spinneker in 2003. Eurofly was listed on the Milan Stock Exchange Milan Stock Exchange

Ryanair

Ryanair shelved, at least temporarily, its plan to acquire Aer Lingus Aer Lingus is Ireland's national airline. Based in Dublin, it operates 41 Airbus aircraft serving Europe, Africa, North America and the Middle East. The airline is 28% owned by the Irish government; it was floated on the Dublin and London Stock Exchanges on 2 October 2006,  following the European Commission's decision to refer its hostile [euro]1.48 billion ($1.95 billion) takeover offer to a Phase II investigation, which can take 3-5 months. Ryanair announced the launch of six new routes and the cancellation of six others next year. Additions are thrice-weekly Girona-Cagliari service from March 27, thrice-weekly Bremen-Malaga from April 3, four-times-weekly Brussels Charleroi-London Stansted from June 1, four-times-weekly Valladolid-Milan Orio al Serio Orio al Serio is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Bergamo in the Italian region of Lombardy, located about 45 km northeast of Milan and about 4 km southeast of Bergamo. Closing city-pairs will be Frankfurt Hahn-Billund on Jan. 9, Liverpool-Kerry and Pisa-Friedrichshafen on Jan. 16, HHN-Shannon and Newcastle-Oslo Sandefjord on March 24 and CRL-Salzburg on April 16. SkyEurope services from Vienna will comprise daily flights to Amsterdam, Paris Orly, Brussels and Sofia; six-times-weekly flights to Bucharest; thrice-weekly operations to Barcelona, Venice, Florence, Nice and Athens, and twice-weekly service to Thessaloniki, Larnaca, Dubrovnik, Split and Zadar. By next summer SkyEurope will offer 61 weekly flights from VIE. It also will provide a bus transfer service between the Austrian and Slovakian capitals. Dec 21, 2006
