(Adoption).Two Delaware Delaware, state, United States Delaware (dĕl`əwâr, –wər), one of the Middle Atlantic states of the United States, the country's second smallest state (after Rhode Island). dads are both now legal parents of two boys they have been raising, thanks to an October 12 family court ruling that allows gay men to adopt their partner's children. Chief judge Vincent Poppiti ruled that the two men could provide a loving, stable, and financially secure home for the two brothers, ages 1 and 6. One of the men adopted the boys in 1999 and 2000. His partner of 22 years functioned as a coparent alongside him the entire time. In his decision Poppiti wrote, "[What matters] in the best interests of [the boys] is that they are thriving thrive intr.v. thrived or throve , thrived or thriv·en , thriv·ing, thrives 1. To make steady progress; prosper. 2. in the environment created by [these men]." Attorney Norman Simon, who worked with Lambda Legal Lambda Legal (Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund) is a United States civil rights organization that focuses on gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender people and those with HIV through impact litigation, education, and public policy work.
