Love stories and other romantic possibilities.

Byline: Lewis Taylor The Register-Guard

Jennifer Self is not too particular when it comes to choosing subjects for "When We First Met," a romantic comedy show in which couples from the audience become part of the onstage entertainment. The only thing that really counts, she says, is love.

"We're looking for Looking for

couples, men with women, men with men, it doesn't matter," Self says. "Couples who are in love, who feel comfortable being on stage and sharing what they think is an interesting story about how they fell in love, how they knew each other was the one."

Part `Dating Game' and part `Whose Line Is It Anyway?' "When We First Met," happens today and Saturday at 8 p.m. in the Stage Left space of the Very Little Theatre, 2350 Hilyard St. Self, a comedian and counselor, will serve as moderator, and the women's comedy troupe WYMPROV! will act out the love stories. If last year's show is any indication, audiences can expect to see some all kinds of romances re-enacted on the stage.

`Last year was great. We had a lesbian couple, a gay couple and a heterosexual couple. The heterosexual couple, the woman had a visual impairment Visual Impairment Definition

`I think it lets people be more truthful, in a way."

Sheklow describes Self as the Rosie O'Donnell character of the show, which will feature three different couples each night. Self will pose questions to a couple on stage, and WYMPROV! members will stop the interview and create a romantic scene that reflects the couple's tale.

The WYMPROV! troupe, which has been splitting sides for 11 years now, features Sheklow, Vicki Silvers, Debby Martin and Enid Lefton.

"WYMPROV! is just great, so anytime they're performing, it works," Self says. "The other thing is, I think people really don't often have the opportunity to talk about how much they care about each other and have that really celebrated. We get weddings, and that's about it.

`This is a time for couples to tell their story and celebrate each other."
