History Originally from Alberschweiler in Bavaria, Germany, 45 year old Elias Kahn immigrated to Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, in 1880 with his wife and nine children. architectural vision for the Roosevelt Memorial on Roosevelt Island Roosevelt Island formerly (until 1921) Blackwell's Island and (1921–73) Welfare Island Island in the East River, between the boroughs of Manhattan and Queens, New York, New York, U.S. . The architect's sketchbook containing poetic writings and notes on the project will be on public view for the first time, along with other drawings that reveal Kahn's process as he developed the project in 1973-4. The free exhibition, which runs through February 5, is at Cooper Union's Arthur A. Houghton Jr. Gallery, 7th Street at Third Avenue. |
