, and a coming-of-age tale, Time & Again takes 15-year-old Kate Owens through a summer at Shady Oaks, her grandparents' farm, Kate's summer haven from the pressures of school and parents. Kate's younger brother Wiki is aware of the following uses of "'Younger Brother":

Kyle, a baseball hero, is the star of the family, while Kate feels like the "stone in everyone's shoe," always at war with her morn. But this summer, even Shady Oaks is no longer the safe refuge it once seemed.

Kate's grandfather is growing increasingly feeble and arthritic, and her grandmother tells her they have to sell the farm. Her friend Sarah has grown boy-crazy, while Kate is late in her blooming, more reserved around boys--although Ethan, a stranger in a train station who turns up as a farmhand at Shady Oaks, manages to break through her defenses. Relying heavily on coincidence in places, with one-dimensional villains, Time & Again seems reminiscent of YA literature from an earlier era. Kate and her friends don't always ring true as contemporary teens in their dialog or behavior: no one seems to have heard of cell phones, e-mail, or instant messaging Exchanging text messages in real time between two or more people logged into a particular instant messaging (IM) service. Instant messaging is more interactive than e-mail because messages are sent immediately, whereas e-mail messages can be queued up in a mail server for seconds or , for example, which sets them apart from all the teens I know! But this innocence may be refreshing, particularly for tween-age readers who enjoyed the series mysteries but are ready to move on to something more challenging.
