Children's Ballet Theatre (LACBT), a non-profit arts organization which provides a theatrical dance experience to children, announced the move to a new facility located at, Dance Arts Academy, 731 S. La Brea La Brea (lə brā`ə), area, S Calif., formerly in Rancho La Brea. The La Brea asphalt pits, which yielded prehistoric animal and plant remains, are in Hancock Park, Los Angeles. This move to the Mid-Wilshire district, which is rapidly becoming a new cultural center in the heart of Los Angeles featuring various forms of dance and theater groups, will allow LACBT greater accessibility to inner city areas. Los Angeles Children's Ballet Theatre was founded in 1990 in order to provide young students with a unique, dramatic dance and musical theater experience for children of all levels. Unlike other children's programs, LACBT does not limit its participants to a specific dance program, but recruits cast members from parks & recreation centers, public and private schools as well as private studios. Currently, LACBT's participants are culturally diverse, with ages ranging from 8 through 18 and come from East Los Angeles East Los Angeles, uninc. city (1990 pop. 126,379), Los Angeles co., S Calif., a residential suburb of Los Angeles, in an industrial area. It has a large Mexican-American population. There is a performing arts center and a cultural center. A junior college is there. , Venice, Montebello, Westwood, Inglewood, Westchester, Alhambra, City Center and Hollywood. During its past 10 years, LACBT has performed four original, full-length history ballets as well as a dozen original short ballets, contemporary dance works, modern dance pieces, and variations on numerous classic ballets.
