KLIATT's July 2001 review of the hardcover edition called this novel of 13-year-old Mike's adventure on his stepfather's charter fishing boat in Hawaiian waters a "swift and often exciting read ... a good choice for those who like action and adventure tales Adventure Tales is an irregularly published magazine reprinting classic stories from pulp magazines of the early 20th century. Ramirez's reading is well paced and careful and he makes this even more accessible than the book. His voice is appropriately youthful as this is Mike's story. The reading is straightforward; and although he doesn't really voice the different characters he catches the appropriate tone for what is said. Highly recommended, especially for reluctant readers.
