Saturday, you not only have the chance to be in the crowd as Lane County attempts to secure its title as host to the world's largest toga party, but you could end up cast in a motion picture spoof of college comedies "Animal House," "Revenge of the Nerds," "National Lampoon's Van Wilder" and "Old School."

During the fourth annual Animal House Celebration at the Hilton Eugene, people can audition for roles in "College," a movie that will have special focus on "Animal House," much of which was filmed in Lane County.

Just in time for the return of college students, would-be stars will perform lines from the new movie or try to impress casting folks with physical comedy, improvisation or lines from their favorite college flick. Auditions will be filmed, and some people will be called back.

Toga-clad guests will be able to watch the auditions as they happen on TV screens set up at the event.

For the exact opposite movie-related experience Saturday, go see "The Anna Cabrini Chronicles." You might not laugh during the screening, but it's anyone's guess how the question-and-answer session with director Tawd b. Dorenfeld will go after the film. It isn't likely to be the most fun night of your life, but you could come away with a new way of looking at suicide.

Over in Florence, the Chowder Blues and Brews Festival, emceed by the town's adopted local saxophone great Paul Biondi, gets under way today. Biondi will keep the event moving along and perform as part of the Music Alliance. Saturday's nonmusical highlight includes a chowder cook-off.

Television events rarely make the Buzzworthy cut, but Thursday's "Oregon Art Beat" at 8 p.m. on OPB will feature super-cool Portland band Dirty Martini. Dirty Martini delighted a crowd at the Library Stage during the Eugene Celebration, no doubt winning new fans.

An encore broadcast will be at 6 p.m. Oct. 1.
