Looking back.The Naval Aviation Naval aviation is the application of manned military air power by navies. Maritime aviation is the operation of aircraft in a maritime role under the command of land based forces such as RAF Coastal Command or United States Coast Guard. News Year in Review article is published annually to document key events from the previous calendar year. This issue's chronology includes an unprecedented event that affected the entire nation: the 11 September terrorist attacks on U.S. soil. Naval Aviation's response to the attacks was immediate and unwavering.
