Longtime SPRE member passes away.David Gray, founder of the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies at California State University Enrollment He began his career in recreation as a playground leader, a job that he continued through his college years and through which he learned the importance of "peak" experiences. He received his Bachelor's in Recreation from the Los Angeles State College and earned his Master's in Physical Education at UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University) UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX . His doctorate is in Public Administration from University of Southern California The U.S. News & World Report ranked USC 27th among all universities in the United States in its 2008 ranking of "America's Best Colleges", also designating it as one of the "most selective universities" for admitting 8,634 of the almost 34,000 who applied for freshman admission . He taught for 29 years as a professor at CSULB and was curriculum chair and associate dean for academic affairs in the School of Applied Arts and Sciences (now the College of Health and Human Services Noun 1. Health and Human Services - the United States federal department that administers all federal programs dealing with health and welfare; created in 1979 Department of Health and Human Services, HHS ). He is the recipient of numerous honors, including SPRE's Distinguished Fellow Award. The family has requested that donations be made to either the preservation of the Peach Tree Fund at CSULB or the David E. Gray Awards Fund.
