Long Lost.David Morrell 2002. Read by Neil Patrick Harris. Abridged. 4 tapes. 6 hrs. Time Warner Audio, 1-58621-276-1. $25.98. Cardboard, plastic; plot, reader notes. SA Reader Harris gives a solid reading in this thriller. He's believable as Brad Denning, the narrator, a successful architect. Brad lives the good life with his wife and son, even while wracked with guilt over a childhood incident that caused his younger brother Percy to vanish without a trace. One day a stranger appears at his door claiming to be his long-lost brother. The stranger knows things that only the real Petey could know, and after some initial suspicions, the man is welcomed into Brad's family. He moves in with them and begins to fit in as though he's never left. During a family hiking trip, Brad has a near-fatal fall from a cliff. Badly hurt, he's finally rescued, only to find that wife, son and alleged brother have disappeared. When the police and FBI prove to be ineffective, Brad takes the search for his family into his own hands. Harris reads with enthusiasm and energy and is aided by an abridgment that doesn't seem to skip a beat. Miles Klein, Frisco, TX |
