London Health Sciences Centre extends agreement with Cerner to include clinical systems and expanded partnership opportunities.

KANSAS CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 4, 1996--Cerner Corp. (NASDAQ:CERN) today announced it signed an agreement in the first quarter of 1996 that extends its relationship with London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) of London, Ontario, Canada. The agreement includes implementation of clinical information systems within Cerner's Health Network Architecture (HNA) to support LHSC's person-centric strategy in patient care and health management. The agreement also initiates expanded partnership opportunities between the two organizations.

London Health Sciences Centre, formed by the merger of University Hospital and Victoria Hospital in October 1995, is one of Canada's largest teaching hospitals. LHSC has committed to invest a portion of the operational savings derived from the merger to fund the acquisition of Cerner technology in support of the organization's commitment to excellence in care delivery. In this agreement, LHSC has licensed PathNet Laboratory Information System, PharmNet Pharmacy Information System, RadNet Radiology Information System, CareNet Care Management System, and Open Engine Application Gateway System.

LHSC previously licensed Cerner's Open Clinical Foundation Data Repository (OCF) and its desktop application for clinicians, PowerChart. All of these Cerner systems work together within HNA to automate processes and facilitate the seamless flow of information between departments and across multiple facilities. LHSC will use Cerner systems to automate the clinical care process around a person-centric model of care and create longitudinal electronic medical records to facilitate care services to individuals throughout the community.

The agreement also opens the door to ongoing partnership opportunities between LHSC and Cerner that would benefit health organizations and individuals throughout the province. These opportunities include the creation of a Canadian Cerner Centre (CCC), a jointly developed and managed facility located in London that would provide an opportunity for Cerner and LHSC to jointly offer their unique talents and experience to benefit the healthcare organizations in Ontario, and ultimately, the individuals who are affiliated with or served by those organizations.
