HNA Morioka, Japan - Hanamaki (Airport Code)

) to support LHSC's person-centric strategy in patient care and health management. The agreement also initiates expanded partnership opportunities between the two organizations.

London Health Sciences Centre, formed by the merger of University Hospital and Victoria Hospital in October 1995, is one of Canada's largest teaching hospitals. LHSC has committed to invest a portion of the operational savings derived from the merger to fund the acquisition of Cerner technology in support of the organization's commitment to excellence in care delivery. In this agreement, LHSC has licensed PathNet Laboratory Information System, PharmNet Pharmacy Information System, RadNet Radiology Information System A Radiology Information System (RIS) is used by radiology departments to store, manipulate and distribute patient radiological data and imagery. The system generally consists of patient tracking and scheduling, result reporting and image tracking capabilities. , CareNet Care Management System, and Open Engine Application Gateway System.

) and its desktop application for clinicians, PowerChart. All of these Cerner systems work together within HNA to automate processes and facilitate the seamless flow of information between departments and across multiple facilities. LHSC will use Cerner systems to automate the clinical care process around a person-centric model of care and create longitudinal electronic medical records to facilitate care services to individuals throughout the community.

The agreement also opens the door to ongoing partnership opportunities between LHSC and Cerner that would benefit health organizations and individuals throughout the province. These opportunities include the creation of a Canadian Cerner Centre (CCC CCC

), a jointly developed and managed facility located in London that would provide an opportunity for Cerner and LHSC to jointly offer their unique talents and experience to benefit the healthcare organizations in Ontario, and ultimately, the individuals who are affiliated with or served by those organizations.

Tony Dagnone, London Health Sciences Centre's President and Chief Executive Officer, said, "The current economic situation in our province compels LHSC to redesign our healthcare processes. When appropriately gathered, information can assist significantly in the redesign of individual healthcare delivery processes and assist in the forecasting of the future healthcare needs of a defined population.

The power of information and its use are the keys to the development of new patient care models for the future. Cerner systems enable us to 're-invent' healthcare in the Ontario region and lead the healthcare system into the 21st century through the development of new models of patient care and support service delivery. In addition, our agreement with Cerner represents the opportunity for our two organizations to form a partnership that could potentially provide a variety of services to the Canadian healthcare market and create jobs. It also offers our staff the opportunity to craft information systems to support the healthcare needs of tomorrow."

Ross Batson, Chairman of London Health Sciences Centre's Board of Directors, said, "By moving toward an Integrated Health Organization model supported by Cerner systems, LHSC will be able to better manage the health status of the population we serve. The potential power of information is phenomenal. Cerner systems have the ability to collect and access individuals' health information from the home to the caregiver's office or clinic, to the hospital and back home again.

This ability will allow us to develop a continuum of care for the individuals we serve and for our healthcare providers. We are excited about the Cerner systems and their availability for timely implementation. Cerner is a high quality, highly successful corporation whose vision coincides with ours."

This agreement also represents the first step of many, as our two organizations find new ways to work together to bring industry-leading clinical and management information solutions to the Canadian healthcare market.
