London: city of summer pavilions. As the 2008 Serpentine Pavilion nears completion ...

Conceived as a simple wooden box that creates a street that runs from park to gallery, the eight completed Serpentine serpentine (sûr`pəntēn, –tīn), hydrous silicate of magnesium. It occurs in crystalline form only as a pseudomorph having the form of some other mineral and is generally found in the form of chrysotile (silky fibers) and  Pavilion brings to Frank Gehry Frank Owen Gehry, CC (born Ephraim Owen Goldberg, February 28, 1929) is a Pritzker Prize winning architect based in Los Angeles, California.

Unfortunately for those attending the press launch, Gehry was not prepared to answer any questions in the course of the traditional press conference, stating (reasonably and politely) that 'what I have to say is outside'. He did, however, ask one question of the press, whether or not waiving his design fee had guaranteed him a place in heaven; another question that may be too premature to address.

Giving slightly more away when posing for photographs on the Serpentine roof terrace, Gehry alluded to his son's involvement in the project, and mentioned (umbrella in hand) that a design did exist for a series of canvas infills that would catch the rain when required. Having eliminated these from the design, he acknowledged that perhaps this idea may need to be revived to provide shelter for Park Nights, the programme of events that will take place at the pavilion between July and October.
