Logitech Brings Cordless Technology to the OEM Market; Award-Winning Cordless MouseMan Will Be Integrated With the Compaq Presario 3000 Desktop System.

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 24, 1996--Logitech Inc., the world's largest manufacturer of computer mice and related control devices, will include its Cordless MouseMan radio mouse with Compaq's recently announced Presario 3000 desktop system. Cordless MouseMan will be the first cordless mouse featuring radio technology to be included by a major system vendor. In addition, Cordless MouseMan will be the first mouse with three-button programmability to be incorporated into a major OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  multimedia computer. The Presario 3000 with Cordless MouseMan is shipping this month.

The award-winning Cordless MouseMan design and technology will remain the same in the OEM version. Even Logitech's logo and product name will remain on the underside of the mouse, indicating that Compaq users are purchasing a high-quality mouse from the world leader in control devices. However, the receiver board will be integrated into the base of Compaq's Presario 3000 to promote a more seamless merge between the mouse and the computer. To accommodate this integration, a push button will allow the user to select one of four channels featured on the mouse, thus preventing interference with devices in use nearby. Although Cordless MouseMan's receiver board will be integrated, users retain the option of using a second, external control device.

"Featuring the industry's first full-featured flat panel display A thin display screen for computer and TV usage. The first flat panels appeared on laptop computers in the mid-1980s, and the LCD technology became the standard. Stand-alone LCD screens became available for desktop computers in the mid-1990s and exceeded sales of CRTs for the first time , a unique sleek compact design, and state-of-the-art multimedia capabilities, the Presario 3000 is a breakthrough product in home PC's," said Greg Memo, a director in Compaq's consumer product group. "The Logitech cordless mouse adds to the overall stylish and compact design, providing Presario 3000 customers with the freedom to use the mouse from any direction without cable clutter."

"Logitech and Compaq both recognized the desire of users to have a high-end control device to complement their high-end multimedia system," said Michel Yavercovski, Logitech's OEM Marketing Director. "Cordless MouseMan is a perfect solution because it frees users from the cord for accurate and convenient cursor (1) The symbol used to point to some element on screen. On Windows, Mac and other graphics-based screens, it is also called a "pointer," and it changes shape as it is moved with the mouse into different areas of the application.  control."

Cordless MouseMan operates by radio frequency technology, not infrared, so no line of sight is necessary. First introduced to the market by Logitech in 1991, radio technology is the most reliable option for cordless control today. The integrated receiver will receive the mouse's signal through most desktop clutter and other obstacles. With its 27 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  band, Cordless MouseMan has received a wide range of agency approval worldwide.

The MouseWare interface has been customized for Compaq and includes a "SmartMove" feature which enables the cursor to jump to the next logical active command. For example, if a user chooses to print a document from the "File" menu, when the print dialog box A movable window that is displayed on screen in response to the user selecting a menu option. It provides the current status and available options for a particular feature in the program.  appears, the cursor will immediately jump to the "OK" button. Users can also customize cursor size, color, sensitivity and other attributes, as well as activating special mouse trails and tracker options. In addition, users benefit from a variety of possible functions assignable to the second and third buttons, such as double click or drag lock The ability to lock onto a screen object so that it can be dragged with the mouse without continuously holding down the mouse (or trackball) button. . Cordless MouseMan is Windows 95 compliant but also enhances productivity in Windows 3.1 and DOS.

Logitech designs, manufactures, and markets products that make communication between humans and computers more intuitive and natural. Retail and OEM product offerings include pointing devices An input device used to move the pointer (cursor) on screen. The major pointing device is the mouse for the desktop computer and the touchpad for the laptop, although many road warriors bring along a mouse.  such as mice and trackballs, hand-held and sheet-fed scanners A scanner that allows only paper to be scanned rather than books or other thick objects.
