Logitech Announces Cordless MouseMan for Macintosh; Radio Control Technology, Customizable Software Set New Standards for Pointing Devices.

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 9, 1996--Logitech Inc., international market leader in computer mice and alternative pointing devices for personal computers, today announced a Macintosh version of its popular Cordless MouseMan. Featuring radio control technology, customizable buttons, Logitech's MouseKey software, and an attractive, comfortable design, Cordless MouseMan for Macintosh will be available through Logitech and distributors in March at an estimated street price of $89 (U.S.).

Innovative Radio Control Technology

In 1992, Logitech commissioned a survey of personal computer users in an effort to better understand how people view their computers. When asked the open-ended question A closed-ended question is a form of question, which normally can be answered with a simple "yes/no" dichotomous question, a specific simple piece of information, or a selection from multiple choices (multiple-choice question), if one excludes such non-answer responses as dodging a , "In what ways do you feel a mouse could be made easier to use?" one in four persons answered, "cordless." Logitech has been meeting this need in the PC market, and now for the Macintosh, with radio control technology -- the most sophisticated cordless technology available today. Unlike infrared-based cordless mouse alternatives, radio control technology does not rely on line-of-sight for signal transmission. Users can simply plug the Cordless MouseMan receiver into their computer, and it will pick up the mouse's signal from a distance of up to six feet through any obstacles that may be in the way.

Cordless MouseMan offers four transmission channels to prevent interference from other persons operating the same device nearby. In addition, because the product operates at a low frequency (27 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc. ), there is no risk of interference with other radio equipment.

MouseKey Software for Greater Productivity

Logitech's MouseKey software increases personal productivity by allowing users to assign shortcuts See Win Shortcuts.  to the second and third buttons (e.g., double click, cut, paste, click lock, and other frequently used commands). Users can even specify a different set of button assignment for each application -- the software remembers the appropriate assignments any time the application is active. MouseKey software also includes "SmartMove," a feature that enables the cursor to jump to the default button of a dialog box A movable window that is displayed on screen in response to the user selecting a menu option. It provides the current status and available options for a particular feature in the program. . For example, if a user chooses to save a file from the "File" menu, when the dialog box appears, the cursor will immediately jump to the "Save" button. System requirements To be used efficiently, all computer software needs certain hardware components or other software resources to be present on a computer system. These pre-requisites are known as (computer) system requirements and are often used as a guideline as opposed to an absolute rule.  for Cordless MouseMan for Macintosh include an available ADB (Apple Desktop Bus) A low-speed serial bus for connecting keyboards, mice and other input devices on Apple IIgs and Macintosh computers.
