Logicode positions itself at the forefront

As interest in computer-based videoconferencing products rises, leading modem and data-communication products manufacturer Logicode Technology Inc. leads the industry by equipping all of its Quicktel and Quicktel II modems with the technology to support videoconferencing.

Paramount to addressing this market is the addition of the V.80 specification, enabling the running of applications that support the H.324 ITU (International Telecommunication Union, Geneva, Switzerland, www.itu.ch) A telecommunications standards body that is under the auspices of the United Nations. Comprising more than 185 member countries, the ITU sets standards for global telecom networks.  videoconferencing standard concerning the interoperability of high-quality video and audio compression Encoding digital audio data to take up less storage space and transmission bandwidth. Videophones make possible an easy and cost-effective means of personal communications between businesses, families and friends, reducing the need for expensive and time-consuming travel.

``With the addition of the V.80 protocol and Synchronous Access Mode operation to our award-winning Quicktel and Quicktel II modems, Logicode is positioned as a leader in providing affordable videoconferencing technology for both businesses and consumers,'' said Allen Gharapetian, vice president of marketing for Logicode Technology.

``Logicode modems are now videophone-ready straight out of the box for added convenience and functionality.''

As Logicode provides V.80-compatible modems and complies to H.324 standards, Logicode customers can upgrade their systems to support video calling with the addition of videophone (1) (VideoPhone) A line of videophones (definition #1 below) from AT&T that were introduced in the early 1990s and later pulled off the market due to poor sales.
