Logica Inc., one of the world's leading systems integrators, software developers and consultants, announced today that they have implemented a new "fast-track" data warehouse to better manage internal operations, while providing many of their customers with a model for data management. Named their "LHQ" Data Mart (Low-cost, High-impact, Quick-delivery), Logica is currently implementing the information database and software system allowing management at all levels to get instant, convenient access to the data they need for analysis, trouble-shooting and decision making. The implementation was handled in conjunction with Logica's business partner Breuer & Co., a Bedford, MA software and consulting firm.

Logica set out to create a data warehouse/data mart that would make a dramatic improvement in the management of financial, operations, and human resource information. Further, the data warehouse allows for immediate access by top management to identify and understand problems, while evaluating the best and quickest approach to achieving a maximum solution.

The LHQ Data Mart is a new database that draws data selectively from existing operational databases and "re-packages" this data to be more useful and conveniently available at each desktop. Simple, powerful query software allows executives to begin using the system with about ten minutes of training and no user's manual. They may display, print, or export data as they choose. A central Data Mart database resides on an inexpensive network server for general use, and comprehensive personalized databases are placed on the notebook computers of key managers so that they have full Data Mart capabilities when traveling. No new data entry is required, and the administrative labor required to keep the Data Mart up-to-date is typically a few person-hours per week or less.

"This contrasts with the traditional operational databases," continues Yates, "which are ideal for producing paychecks, financial statements and other reports, but which are usually poor at giving quick answers to the simple questions needed to run complex businesses."
