Data warehouse/data mart streamlines internal operations

and acts as model for Company's global client-base

Logica Inc., one of the world's leading systems integrators An individual or organization that builds systems from a variety of diverse components. With increasing complexity of technology, more customers want complete solutions to information problems, requiring hardware, software and networking expertise in a multivendor environment. , software developers and consultants, announced today that they have implemented a new "fast-track" data warehouse to better manage internal operations, while providing many of their customers with a model for data management. Named their "LHQ LHQ Local Headquarters

" Data Mart A subset of a data warehouse for a single department or function. A data mart may have tens of gigabytes of data rather than hundreds of gigabytes for the entire enterprise. See data warehouse.  (Low-cost, High-impact, Quick-delivery), Logica is currently implementing the information database and software system allowing management at all levels to get instant, convenient access to the data they need for analysis, trouble-shooting and decision making. The implementation was handled in conjunction with Logica's business partner Breuer & Co., a Bedford, MA software and consulting firm Noun 1. consulting firm - a firm of experts providing professional advice to an organization for a fee

"Unlike many consulting organizations who don't follow the same advice they give their clients, Logica is using the same business procedures and technology that it recommends to its own clients, and in turn, achieving the same performance and results internally," explains Jim Yates, President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Logica Inc. "Data warehouses typically cost several million dollars to implement and often take one to three years to get up and running. We decided to take the "LHQ" path -- a low-cost approach which would produce high-impact results quickly -- in three months rather than three years."

Logica set out to create a data warehouse/data mart that would make a dramatic improvement in the management of financial, operations, and human resource information. Further, the data warehouse allows for immediate access by top management to identify and understand problems, while evaluating the best and quickest approach to achieving a maximum solution.

The LHQ Data Mart is a new database that draws data selectively from existing operational databases and "re-packages" this data to be more useful and conveniently available at each desktop. Simple, powerful query software allows executives to begin using the system with about ten minutes of training and no user's manual. They may display, print, or export data as they choose. A central Data Mart database resides on an inexpensive network server for general use, and comprehensive personalized per·son·al·ize

No new data entry is required, and the administrative labor required to keep the Data Mart up-to-date is typically a few person-hours per week or less.

, Vice-President of Breuer & Co. "We believe that the principles and technology employed at Logica can be used successfully in almost any organization to obtain far more management benefits from existing data. The key to low cost quick success is a very small team of people with a broad and deep skill set in business consulting, general management, database technology and operations, as well as expertise in departmental computer systems."

Multi-Dimensional Analysis

Logica's Data Mart also allows data to be viewed from many different points. Referred to as 'multi-dimensional analysis,' individuals will be able to view all operational areas without sorting through hundreds and thousands of pages of reports. "This contrasts with the traditional operational databases," continues Yates, "which are ideal for producing paychecks, financial statements and other reports, but which are usually poor at giving quick answers to the simple questions needed to run complex businesses."

Implementation & The Future

"In less than three months, I was able to change the way I do day-to-day management of the Company, with unprecedented ability to quickly pin-point issues needing my attention and then to equally quickly get detailed information on them," describes Yates. "Our new systems will actually influence the management culture of the company, with line managers having information readily available in the form they need."

Logica is already achieving their goal by offering this similar data technology for their customers who require similar LHQ information and analysis. Concludes Yates, "Within a few weeks of our initial implementation, one of our sister companies in London made the decision to install a similar system. We already have plans to continue to build upon and improve our ability to use these procedures and technology to improve our competitive advantage and to serve our customers better."
