 simulators, as well as installation and training, are included in the basic $7.7 million contract awarded by the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive & Armaments Command, Rock Island, Ill.

"The Army's need for stability of design and highly accurate hit detection matched our long-term experience and capabilities," said Lockheed Martin Information Systems President John Hallal. "This next-generation system will provide our customer superior live fire training ranges with logistics support at reduced cost far into the future."

Lockheed Martin's Next Generation Targetry System maximizes the use of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment, modular configurations and efficient maintenance design. Soldiers train in scenarios executed by range control officers using a hand-held remote controller or a central range control station.

Smart targets respond to commands for movement, provide accurate feedback and simulated return fire using laser technology.

Lockheed Martin will install live-fire training ranges at Ft.
