Lockheed Martin IS&T announces alliance to speed adoption of Mobile Computing.


KING OF PRUSSIA King of Prussia, industrialized suburban area (1990 pop. 18,406), Montgomery co., SE Pa. Mobile computing implies wireless transmission, but wireless transmission does not necessarily imply mobile computing. Fixed wireless applications use satellites, radio systems and lasers to transmit between permanent objects such as buildings  Alliance(tm) to promote the use of wireless technology in enterprise mobile computing solutions.

The charter members of the alliance are IS&T, Itronix, Racotek, RAM Mobile Data RAM Mobile Data was originally founded by RAM Broadcasting Corporation as American Mobile Data Communications, Inc. in 1988[1]. The name of the company was changed to RAM Mobile Data in 1989. RAM Mobile Data was the U.S. Operator of the Mobitex network. , and Smith Advanced Technology. IS&T will work with the alliance members to develop best-of-breed wireless solutions for field force automation.

To facilitate this, IS&T is establishing a wireless computing lab in Atlanta where a dedicated team is building mobile computing frameworks with components from alliance members. The alliance will also integrate development approaches and reduce the cycle time and cost of building tailored mobile computing solutions.
