Local unions contribute to Westchester Biz Council.

The Westchester Business Partnership, winning more important support for its campaign to promote Westchester as a business location, has received a contribution of $16,000 from an alliance of prominent area trade unions.

Edward Doyle, president of the Westchester-Putnam Building Trades Council, presented the donation to Partnership officials on behalf of four of the Council's member locals: Plumbers Local Union #299 of White Plains; Plumbers Local Union #209, based in Yonkers; International Union of Operating Engineers Local #137. Briarcliff Manor; Carpenters Local Union #163. Peekskill.

The Westchester-Putnam Building Trades Council is an alliance of 30 union locals from 18 individual trades. Doyle noted that in the current sluggish economic environment, up to 40 percent of the 35,000 area workers represented by the Council are jobless right now, despite their wide-ranging skills.

Earlier this year the partnership, founded in 1990 to bring new business to the county and to help retain existing jobs, restructured its leadership to represent a broader cross-section of the community, including talented individuals from sectors including business, labor, education, real estate, utilities and government.
