WHAT: More than 1,400 employees from Kraft Foods in Illinois,
Wisconsin, Georgia, New York and New Jersey will leave the
conference room to lend a hand in their community as part of
the 11th Annual Kraft Cares Day. Kraft encourages employees
to take this day to volunteer at local nonprofit
organizations in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s
birthday.
WHO: Locally, 700+ Kraft employees from the Glenview and
Northfield offices will give of their time and talent to help
40 nonprofit organizations(a) in activities including
painting a mural in a gymnasium, waxing floors, scrubbing
windows, sorting clothes and food donations, serving meals to
those in need, teaching English as a second language to
seniors, and providing homework help to children.
(a) The nonprofit organizations earmarked for Kraft Cares Day
are also recipients of the Kraft Employee Fund and the
company's charitable contributions, which total nearly
$18 million since 1999. In addition, several of the
nonprofit organizations that will receive help from Kraft
employees on Kraft Cares Day 2006 are assisting Hurricane
Katrina and Rita victims.
WHY: Kraft Cares Day originated in 1996 to honor the birthday of
Martin Luther King, Jr. and his legacy of reaching out to
others in the spirit of community service. This annual event
recognizes the commitment of Kraft Foods and its employees to
go beyond providing quality food products to consumers by
contributing to the needs of those less fortunate in the
surrounding community.
