Carnegie Mellon Driver Training and Safety Institute, Inc.(CM-DSTI) under the leadership of President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , Dr. Gerard Meyer, proudly announces its selection as host site of the First Annual World Transportation Transatlantic Summit beginning June 5, 2001. Top government leaders and transportation experts from around the world will be coming to Fayette County Fayette County is the name of eleven counties in the United States:

Representatives of 20 different countries will be present. The representatives are members of EuroTra, which is an association that trains 250,000 professional drivers per year. The main focus of the summit is on driver training and safety research for the new millenium, and will facilitate meetings between representatives of the European Commission European Commission, branch of the governing body of the European Union (EU) invested with executive and some legislative powers. Located in Brussels, Belgium, it was founded in 1967 when the three treaty organizations comprising what was then the European Community  and the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The use of this technology will also be very helpful in studying the human factor aspect of the drivers. CM-DTSI is now working in conjunction with APP to adapt weight lifting and other human factor research equipment for use with the APP systems.

The Institute received a congressional appropriation of a $7.5 million cooperative agreement with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration The FMCSA was established as a separate administration within the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) on January 1, 2000, pursuant to the Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Act of 1999.  (DTFH61-99-X-00016). The project is in its second year of a three-year appropriation and has successfully achieved contractual obligations and its mission to develop a model center for driver training and safety education and research.
