Lloyd's insurer Ascot names former top spy as chairman.


Lloyd's insurer Ascot Ascot (ăs`kət), town, Windsor and Maidenhead, S central England. The famous horse races instituted by Queen Anne in 1711 are held annually in June on Ascot Heath. Sir Richard Billing Dearlove, KCMG, OBE (born 23 January 1945) was head of the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) from 1999 until 6 May 2004.
, former head of the United Kingdom's Secret Intelligence Service, as its next chairman.

Dearlove succeeds James Prior, a former Conservative Party politician who served as Northern Ireland Northern Ireland: see Ireland, Northern.

Ascot Chief Executive Martin Reith cited in a statement Dearlove's communications skills and his "enviable network of contacts and vast management experience from his time in the intelligence service during which time he rose to the very top."

After joining MI6 in 1966, Dearlove served in Nairobi, Kenya; Prague, Czechoslovakia; Paris; Geneva Geneva, canton and city, Switzerland
