"Our customers tell us that backing up and recovering their data is incredibly complex and expensive," said Jim Hebert, general manager, Windows Server Division at Microsoft Corp. "The combination of Data Protection Server and LiveVault storage solutions will help customers shrink their backup and recovery time from hours to minutes and drive down the cost of maintaining storage infrastructures, making continuous data protection technologies available to customers of all sizes."

The US Small Business Administration recommends that data be stored at least 50 miles from its primary location, to protect against site and regional disasters. LiveVault AutoOffsite delivers this value to Microsoft DPS customers. LiveVault AutoOffsite is being fully tested and optimized to work with Microsoft DPS to automatically transmit data to a secure, offsite facility via the Internet.

"Microsoft's entry into the disk based backup validates what industry analysts and companies like LiveVault have been saying for years: tape backup is unreliable and burdensome and gives companies a false sense of security that their data is protected and restorable," said Bob Cramer, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. LiveVault AutoOffsite continues the LiveVault tradition of delivering products and services that utilize disk for backup and bandwidth for automatic offsite protection to ensure data recoverability for small and mid-sized companies (SMBs) and remote branch offices. Thousands of SMBs already subscribe to the LiveVault Online Backup and Recovery Service, a disk-based service that automatically and continuously backs up business server data via a secure Internet connection and stores it in a secure offsite location for guaranteed recovery in the event of a system failure, virus, human error or other disaster.

The LiveVault service is designed for customers who have primarily relied on in-house tape backups to keep their data safe.
