A longtime long·time adj. Having existed or persisted for a long time: a longtime friend; a longtime resident of Detroit. longtime Adjective friend of the King family, this forty-something, Harlem-born, Bronx-bred preacher has rived a life of accomplishment. Not only was Johnson Cook the first woman to be elected president of the prestigious Hampton University Hampton University, at Hampton, Va.; coeducational; founded 1868, chartered 1870 as a normal and agricultural school; known as Hampton Institute 1930–84. Minister's Conference, she also served as a domestic policy adviser under President Bill Clinton. So it is understandable that at Mrs. King's funeral, Johnson Cook was comfortable introducing various dignitaries and ushering four presidents onto the stage. In this, her fourth book, Dr. Suzan Johnson Cook is also comfortable sharing with us what it takes to live like you're blessed. The book's format is simple: Each letter in the word "blessed" represents a topic and that topic is in turn covered in a section of the book. "B" is for balance; "I" is for love; "e" is for energy; "s" is for the spirit of God within; "s" is for success; "e" is for encouragement; and "d" is for devotion to God. In each section, Johnson Cook uses biblical examples, personal anecdotes, or the trials and triumphs of everyday folk to illustrate that section's topic and bring the subject matter home. Additionally, the energy section includes a 25-question emotional energy test, complete with an assessment of what your total score says about your emotional energy level. The test was cute cute adj. cut·er, cut·est 1. Delightfully pretty or dainty. 2. Seriously, to me, the best parts of the book revolved re·volve v. re·volved, re·volv·ing, re·volves v.intr. 1. To orbit a central point. 2. To turn on an axis; rotate. See Synonyms at turn. 3. around Johnson Cook's personal stories and the stories of the women to whom she introduced us. In the section on success, Johnson Cook talks about the importance of writing a personal mission statement and then shares a few anecdotes from her time at the White House. "Looking back, I realize that this was the point at which I became convinced that God not only opens doors for us, He also helps us step through the doorway," she writes. "That means that no matter how detailed our mission statement might be, He's likely to give us far more than we asked for."
