Toxicity and Safe Handling of Rubber Chemicals - Code of Practice, 4th Edition. 380 pages. Price, $30. Rapra Technology Ltd., Shawbury, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, U.K. (1999).

This reference book provides an essential guide to health and safety in the rubber processing industry. The British Rubber Manufacturers' Association and Rapra Technology Ltd. have combined forces to update the information on hundreds of different rubber chemicals. New data have been compiled from reputable manufacturers and suppliers, and from standard sources of health and safety data. The book includes an introduction to the regulations governing the labeling and use of chemicals, together with definitions of toxicity, carcinogenicity, mutagenicity mutagenicity /mu·ta·ge·nic·i·ty/ (-je-nis´it-e) the property of being able to induce genetic mutation.

Proceedings: Constitutive Models for Rubber. Edited by A. Dorfmann and A.H. Muhr. Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre, Brickendonbury, Hertford, U.K. (1999).

The utility of computer-aided engineering design (CAED CAED Cairo Educational Services (stock symbol)
CAED Conseil Arabe de l'Enfance et du Developpement

) depends on implementation of appropriate constitutive models for the materials, but it is only recently that computers and software with the capability to apply realistic models for rubber has become widely available, according to these proceedings. Researchers are, therefore, said to face the challenge to develop models for rubber that can be implemented in the software packages and describe adequately those properties of engineering significance. Software engineers face the challenge of which one of the many models for rubber they should choose, according to the proceedings. Sessions covered experimental techniques, viscoelasticity Viscoelasticity, also known as anelasticity, is the study of materials that exhibit both viscous and elastic characteristics when undergoing deformation. Viscous materials, like honey, resist shear flow and strain linearly with time when a stress is applied. , tires and friction, softening phenomena and applications.
