Lite Cycles Selects Ciprico's TALON for Leading Edge Airborne Application; TALON 2211 Ideal for High-Bandwidth Video Capture and Analysis.Business Editors/High-Tech Writers MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 5, 2004 Ciprico Inc. (Nasdaq:CPCI), a leading provider of storage solutions that simplify and accelerate digital media workflows for the U.S. military, announced today the selection of its TALON (TM) 2211 MIL spec, rugged RAID solution by Lite Cycles Inc. (LCI LCI - La Chaine Info (French cable news channel) LCI - Landing Craft, Infantry LCI - Launch Centered Inertial LCI - Launch Control Indicator LCI - Law Commission of India LCI - Lean Construction Institute LCI - Life Cycle Inventory LCI - Linux Certified Instructor (Sair Linux and GNU Certified Instructor) LCI - Lisgar Collegiate Institute (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) LCI - Load Commutated Inverter (type of variable speed controller for AC electric motors)), a leading developer of multi-functional sensor systems. TALON 2211 is the first 2 Gb/second Fibre Channel RAID storage device to feature a removable and transportable disk pack Disk Packs Disk drives used to be huge washing machine-like devices. These were the kinds of removable disk modules that were used in them. The Actual Devices Taken in the 1970s, this picture shows the disk pack being loaded into the drive. Such disks held only a couple of hundred megabytes. (Image courtesy of Unisys Corporation.), making it ideal for emerging C4ISR C4ISR - Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance C4ISR - Command, Control, Communications, Computer, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance applications, including high resolution sensor capture and analysis. LCI evaluated and selected Ciprico's TALON 2211 for integration in its next generation airborne LIDAR (LIght Detection And Ranging) A method of measuring atmospheric conditions including temperature and wind. Lidar works by transmitting laser signals using all light ranges (ultraviolet, visible, infrared) and amplifying the light that is scattered back through an optical telescope and photomultiplier tube. See radar. (Light Detection and Ranging) system. The LCI system uses a proprietary, multi-spectral 3D flash laser radar mounted on a helicopter performing minefield scans. This unique sensor streams high-speed data for recording and later analysis to the TALON 2211. The information collected by LCI's sensor system is written to an airborne drive pack and then quickly and easily deployed to a ground station for analysis, post processing, and archiving. LCI chose TALON because it is extremely fault-tolerant, uniquely suited to high-bandwidth applications, and offers an innovative way to move around over a Terabyte of data. "Storing and accessing data as quickly and reliably as possible is a critical requirement in these applications. Our military customers need a highly reliable solution that they can count on, and Ciprico's experience in digital signal recording made them an obvious choice," said Robert Bridges, Senior System Engineer for LCI. "After examining several products on the market, we chose Ciprico's TALON 2211 because it provided virtually bullet-proof storage for our application needs and was very compatible with our unique LIDAR technology. Together, Lite Cycles and Ciprico provide an excellent solution for our military clients." "Working with companies like Lite Cycles allows us to really showcase our technology and the value we bring to our military customers", said Robert Ries, Senior Product Manager for the TALON 2211 product line. "There is an information explosion in the military right now, creating a critical need for solutions that provide immediate and ready access to intelligence data. Our knowledge and support during LCI's testing of the TALON 2211 confirms once again that Ciprico is indeed the leader in reliable, high performing storage solutions for C4ISR applications." Since its introduction in late 2003, Ciprico's TALON 2211 has been evaluated and selected for multiple new military programs resulting in seed unit sales. Several customers of Ciprico's previous 1Gb/s TALON have successfully migrated to the new, higher performance TALON 2211.
