But what does the Internet look like? As in the classic Borges tale, "1:1" collapses the distinction between map and territory, but it also confounds the desire for representational verisimilitude. In this series of five evolving interfaces to a database of all possible IP addresses, the Internet looks like nothing but its interface. And despite the superabundance of info calories served up by search engines, what "1:1" maps is largely an empire of "non-accessible information, undeveloped sites, and cryptic cryp·tic (kr p t k)n.1. Hidden or concealed. 2. messages intended for someone else." What's (virtual) real(ity)?
