Liquid-Crystal Technology, OLEDs Highlight Program for Display Week 2007.

SAN JOSE San Jose, city, United States
San Jose (sănəzā`, săn hōzā`), city (1990 pop. 782,248), seat of Santa Clara co., W central Calif.; founded 1777, inc. 1850.
, Calif. -- Conference organizers for Display Week 2007: The Society for Information Display (SID) International Symposium, Seminar & Exhibition have finalized this year's Symposium program, selecting the best papers from more than 700 submissions from the academic and research sectors of the display world. Display Week 2007 will take place May 20-25th, 2007 at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, California Long Beach is a city located in southern Los Angeles County, California, USA, on the Pacific coast. It borders Orange County on its southeast edge. It is about 20 miles (30 km) south of downtown Los Angeles. , U.S.A.

The Symposium represents the heart of Display Week each year, and this year comprises 68 sessions spread across four days, beginning on Tuesday, May 22. Overall, the Symposium will feature 279 oral presentations, plus a Poster Session A poster session is the juried presentation of research information by representatives of several research teams at a congress or conference with an academic or professional focus. These are particularly prominent at scientific conferences such as medical congresses.  featuring 210 poster papers that also will take place on Tuesday. The sessions are divided up between 12 of the hottest areas of display technology, which are broken down here by number of sessions. (NOTE: Some sessions are shared between two categories, therefore the total below is greater than 68.)

* Liquid-Crystal Technology: 12 Sessions

* OLEDs: 12 Sessions

* Active-Matrix Devices: 10 Sessions

* Display Systems: 9 Sessions

* Display Electronics: 6 Sessions

* Display Manufacturing: 6 Sessions

* Applied Vision: 4 Sessions

* Field-Emission Displays: 3 Sessions

* Projection: 3 Sessions

* Display Applications: 2 Sessions

* Display Measurement: 2 Sessions

In terms of the number of papers, Liquid-Crystal Technology has the most with 93 papers, followed by OLEDs (organic-light-emitting diodes) with 86 total papers. Fan Luo, General Chair of this Display Week 2007, commented that the ongoing improvements to LC and OLED (Organic Light Emitting Device, Organic Light Emitting Diode) A thin film light-emitting technology that is expected to compete with LCD and plasma TVs as well as LCD monitors and readouts.  technologies should make for an exciting program.

"The 2007 Symposium sees the continuing trends of improving LCD TV's visual performance by employing various techniques such as 120 Hz driving, dynamic control using LED local dimming, and motion-compensated impulsive driving to reduce the blurring effect of the LCD TV A flat panel TV that uses LCD technology or a rear-projection TV that is based on LCD microdisplay panels. See flat panel TV, rear-projection TV and LCD. ," Luo said. "Also, OLED devices have kept their fast pace of progress. This year, there are two sessions on white OLEDs with improved efficiency, longer life, and better match with color filters, and two sessions on the improvements of OLED life."

"There have also been first-time OLED prototypes driven by either organic TFTs or ZnO (zinc oxide zinc oxide, chemical compound, ZnO, that is nearly insoluble in water but soluble in acids or alkalies. It occurs as white hexagonal crystals or a white powder commonly known as zinc white. ) TFTs," Luo added. "ZnO TFTs have become a popular alternative to organic TFTs because of their high mobility and transparency."

There will be four papers this year dealing with the processing of ZnO TFTs. These will include a paper from Sony detailing a novel laser transfer technology for manufacturing large-sized OLED panels (Paper 53.2). Sony turned heads at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) by showing off its 11- and 27-in. OLED prototypes, adding to recent hype that OLED may be the future of flat-screen TV technology. In addition to the Symposium, the program has been set for all the other elements of Display Week 2007, including the Sunday Short Courses, Display Technology Seminars, Applications Tutorials, Business Conference and Investors Conference.
