Lion, Others Discover Lactoferin Helps Improve Periodontal Disease.


Tokyo, Japan, Apr 28, 2006 - (JCN) - Lion has elucidated a mechanism of gum damage in periodontal disease in collaboration with GeneticLab and Tokyo Medical and Dental University Tokyo Medical and Dental University (東京医科歯科大学 tōkyō ika shika daigaku) offers baccalaureate and graduate degrees in medicine, dentistry, and related fields. .

The three partners have used gene analysis to discover that lipopolysaccharide lipopolysaccharide /lipo·poly·sac·cha·ride/ (-pol?e-sak´ah-rid)
1. a molecule in which lipids and polysaccharides are linked.

 (LPS), a periodontal pathogen, reduces the level of collagen in the gum tissue and breaks the tissue down.

Further, they have confirmed that lactoferin (LF), a kind of multifunctional protein found in milk and breast milk, can detoxify de·tox·i·fy

1. To counteract or destroy the toxic properties of a substance.

2. To remove the effects of poison from something, such as the blood.

3.
 LPS so that it helps control the development of periodontal disease.
