Line of the times: it's not exactly a teller station, nor is it an ATM.

Your customers will not be lining up to use this product. This is good, because this product delivers "teller assisted self-service"--designed to eliminate the traditional teller line.

It's called the Concourse and it is offered by an alliance consisting of Infonox in Santa Clara, Calif., and Source Technologies in Charlotte, N.C. The system consists of up to four kiosks with one or more checking, recyclers or other peripherals organized in separate windows in front of a single teller.

Here's how it works: Consumers "set up" their banking transactions on a self-service terminal. Next, a teller assists by completing the transaction.

The system is designed to increase teller productivity, making it possible for a single teller to manage several customer lines simultaneously. It also frees up the teller from mundane chores and allows him or her to concentrate on customer service.
