Linda Sullivan, President and General Manager of NBC11 Joins Board of National Conference for Community and Justice - NCCJ.

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 23, 2003

Linda Sullivan, President and General Manager of NBC11 in San Jose has been appointed to the Silicon Valley Board of Directors of The National Conference for Community & Justice (NCCJ).

As a member of the Board, Linda will work with Executive Director, Bart Charlow, on issues and events affecting the mission of NCCJ.

"Our mission is to address racism and discrimination targeted against people of any ethnicity, faith or gender, and to replace this with communities built on understanding and respect," said Bart Charlow. "Linda's commitment to the community will help us frame issues effectively and develop ways to communicate how we can all prevent and resolve conflicts."

Prior to joining NBC11, Ms. Sullivan was President and General Manager at NBC4 in Washington, D.C., and held the same title at WJAR-TV, Providence, Rhode Island before that.

Ms. Sullivan has always been greatly involved in the affairs of her local community. While in Washington D.C, she served on the Board of Directors of The Greater Washington Board of Trade, Greater Washington Urban League, Hoop Dreams and Washington Redskins Leadership Council. Ms. Sullivan also serves on the national NCCJ Board of Directors.

She has a degree in English from DePauw University, and graduated from the Executive Development Course sponsored by General Electric Corporation and Harvard University's general management program.

The Silicon Valley region of the NCCJ produces a number of programs designed to address and overcome the root causes of racism and discrimination. These include:

Camp Anytown, USA, a residential youth leadership development program where high school students, their teachers and law officers create communities in which barriers of race, religion, ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation disappear,

Holocaust Studies & Critical Thinking, which uses the Holocaust as the paradigm of evil to teach students about the destructive consequences of power and prejudice combined, and how to resist the propaganda of hate groups in America today;

Green Circle, teaches elementary school children from the earliest ages about inclusion, conflict prevention and resolution, and how to truly appreciate people different from themselves.

Experiencing Diversity and Interrupting Prejudice, immerses youth and adults in a higher level of awareness of where our prejudices come from, and how we can work to overcome the obvious and subtle forms of bias and exclusion that surround us in our communities.

Interfaith Relations, given the religious pluralism of the U.S. today and the potential for inter-group conflict, clergy and influential community leaders form relationships that transcend differences and carry over into leading their religious communities toward greater mutual appreciation, prevention of misunderstanding, and joint action in times of crisis;

Victim Witness Assistance Center: provides desperately needed assistance to distressed victims of crime and opens access to justice for those often left out, while simultaneously encouraging cooperation between ethnic minority communities and law enforcement, the courts and the social services system.
