 JAZZ ORCHESTRA (LCJO) WITH WYNTON MARSALIS, the world-renowned resident orchestra of Jazz at Lincoln Center Jazz at Lincoln Center is a constituent company of the Lincoln Center performing arts organization, whose performing arts complex, Frederick P. Rose Hall, is located at 60th Street and Broadway in New York City, slightly south of the main Lincoln Center campus and directly  (J@LC), makes a triumphant return to Japan with a two-week residency entitled United in Swing.

Sponsored by Merrill Lynch, the tour will feature 13 concerts in 7 cities: Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, Hamamatsu, Morioka, Utsunomiya, and Hiroshima. In addition, members of the LCJO will lead educational programs in selected cities. This is the LCJO's longest tour in Japan to date; it has performed in Japan on three previous occasions: a concert in Tokyo in February 1998, a weeklong residency at the Yokohama Cultural Center in July 1998, and concerts in Osaka and Tokyo in March 2000.

Wynton Marsalis, Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, said, "Everywhere the LCJO goes across the globe, we hear the same response: 'when are you coming back?' The Japanese in particular love the sound of swing, so we are very excited to return to their country with this extended series of concerts. During the residency, the LCJO will perform several different programs, including concerts devoted to the songbooks of Art Blakey, Wynton Marsalis, Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus and John Coltrane, as well as classics from the Swing Era. In addition, the LCJO will collaborate in Tokyo with the New Japan Philharmonic, featuring orchestral arrangements of Ellington's music by Mr. Marsalis.

The United in Swing 2001-02 Tour has been the most extensive tour by the LCJO to date, reaching over 50 cities in the U.S. and abroad. Since 1992, the LCJO has completed more than 20 tours, which have reached more than 250 cities in 30 countries on 5 continents.

The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra (LCJO), composed of many of the finest jazz soloists and ensemble players today, has been the Jazz at Lincoln Center (J@LC) resident orchestra for over 10 years.
