I have been reading Commonweal com·mon·weal
n.

2. Archaic A commonwealth or republic.

Noun 1.
since the 1950s, when it, along with CrossCurrents, helped me to remain a Catholic. The June 3 issue was like a fresh breeze from the past. To name just two contributions: Rev. Joseph Komonchak's article is the best thing I have seen on Pope Benedict XVI Editing of this page by unregistered or newly registered users is currently disabled due to vandalism.  ("The Church in Crisis"). It makes sense of what would otherwise be unintelligible. Perhaps even more encouraging was Bernard G. Prusak's review of John Paul II's Memory and Identity ("The Enlightenment & All That"). John Paul II's dubious philosophical and theological views need to be identified, and Prusak has done this clearly. He has also done it courageously, since it probably won't be long before the letter-writing vigilantes vigilantes (vĭjĭlăn`tēz), members of a vigilance committee. Such committees were formed in U.S. frontier communities to enforce law and order before a regularly constituted government could be established or have real authority.  set off after him. Thank you Komonchak, Prusak, and Commonweal!

DAVID David, in the Bible
David, d. c.970 B.C., king of ancient Israel (c.1010–970 B.C.), successor of Saul. The Book of First Samuel introduces him as the youngest of eight sons who is anointed king by Samuel to replace Saul, who had been deemed a failure.
