Lightwave Communications Introduces Large-Scale Matrix Switching for Graphics Computing Environments.

Business and Technology Editors

MILFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 15, 2001

128 Source to 128 Destination Full Matrix Switch is Perfectly

Suited to Animation, VR and Scientific Applications

Lightwave Communications, the leader in high performance switching and extension solutions for the graphics computing marketplace announces its latest matrix switching development, the Matrix-Hub 128(2)(128 squared). Ideally suited to animation, post production, virtual reality, and scientific applications the Matrix-Hub 128(2) permits full matrix switching of RGB (Red Green Blue) The computer's native color space, which is the color system for capturing and displaying images. RGB was derived from our own perception of color because human eyes are sensitive to red, green and blue (see trichromaticity).  video, keyboard/mouse, audio and serial signals from up to 128 sources (computers) to the same number of destinations (users). The switch in the 128 source/destination configuration is comprised of a video chassis and up to three universal chassis' that are fitted with keyboard/mouse, serial and audio input/output cards according to according to

customer needs. Additional universal chassis' can be added for increased distribution capability. The universal chassis also permits input/output cards to be combined in one chassis to accommodate customer needs for sources and destinations fewer than the 128 the Matrix-Hub serves when fully loaded. "The capability and flexibility of the 128 gives our customers a single switching solution that maximizes access to their computing resources", states Kevin Keefe Kevin Leslie Keefe is a politician of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. On July 28, 2004, he ran for the Canadian House of Commons, representing the Conservative Party of Canada in Halifax, but lost to Alexa McDonough of the New Democratic Party. , Vice President of Engineering for Lightwave.

The Matrix-Hub 128(2) chassis' can be used independently or integrated together to operate as one. Each chassis includes redundant power supplies and a front panel electro-luminescent display for quick references to diagnostics and connection activity. The Matrix-Hub 128(2) system chassis' are enclosed in a custom designed 51 inch rack.

Each customer may decide how and by whom the Matrix-Hub 128(2) will be controlled. Through simple serial connections the switch may be connected to a network, an attached server, an industry-standard controller (Dataton), or an ASCII terminal A simple input/output device that transmits and receives ASCII data. See dumb terminal. . The switch is capable of routing RGB video and/or audio signals to any number of destinations simultaneously while keyboard/mouse and serial information is routed to one destination at a time.

The Matrix-Hub 128(2) joins Lightwave's existing line of superior quality matrix switching solutions. The Matrix-Hub Series 3000 is a 30 source 30 destination full matrix switch transparently switching RGB Video, Keyboard/Mouse, Serial and Audio with individual dedicated chassis. The Matrix-Hub Series 1000 is a 10 X10 version switching RGB Video, Keyboard/Mouse and Serial from a single chassis.
