Lighthouse Technologies Gains Unusual Place in Live8 and G8 History.

HONG KONG -- For however long events surrounding the 2nd July Live 8 concerts and the G8 conference on 6th-8th July 2005 are remembered, large screen supplier Lighthouse Technologies Ltd is assured a virtually unique place in British production history.

For, with two events that were seen by the public and media as completely opposed to each other, Lighthouse was one of the few companies that serviced both influential world events.

In London's Hyde Park, Lighthouse LED video screens supplied by Creative Technology helped to ensure that the 200,000 strong audience missed absolutely none of the action, nor the pre-recorded video clips that were essential for getting the Live 8 message across.

On stage and behind the performers, the main screen comprised 8x6 modules of Lighthouse R19 19mm LED screen (measuring 9.76m x 5.52m) in 16x9 format. Meanwhile, on each of the PA wings, an 8x8 module (9.76m x 7.36m) Lighthouse R19 screen, was positioned, configured as 4x3 IMAG ratio. Each of the R19 screens was connected to its own LVC-88 so video director Kevin Williams could access each screen individually.

The high point for the screens on the stage wings was during the reformed Pink Floyd's set, a huge roar from the crowd greeting the images of Dave Gilmour on one Lighthouse screen and Roger Waters on the other.

The sheer size of the Hyde Park audience (and the fact that two FOH towers were needed) meant that three delay screens had to be installed further back in the arena. Two of these were 40m(2) Lighthouse 25mm pixel pitch LED screens, both fed by digital video delays, which ensured they were perfectly in synchronisation with the sound.

The press area had a 4 x 4 module Lighthouse P10i/o screen measuring 2.56m x 1.92m outside in the artist's garden and the newly launched Lighthouse high brightness and high resolution 6mm pixel pitch PopVision PV-80 single panel stand-alone screen in the press tent.

Lighthouse screens were also in use at the Berlin Live 8 concert, where two 5x4 R16 16mm pixel pitch screens helped relay the action to another huge audience.

Meanwhile, 500 miles from Hyde Park in Gleneagles, Scotland, Lighthouse screens were also a key part of the G8 conference itself, where the leaders of the world's richest eight countries were meeting. Two 8x8 panel R16 screens, supplied by Swedish rental company Massteknik, were used to relay the conference to the gathered crowd.
