This video installation takes the absolute counterpoint counterpoint, in music, the art of combining melodies each of which is independent though forming part of a homogeneous texture. The term derives from the Latin for "point against point," meaning note against note in referring to the notation of plainsong. to the profusion of noise and endless commercial messages and information that define the contemporary urban landscape. The "Light Lands" is a series of abstract works on light in movement and time. In these photographs that are visually closer to abstract gestural painting than photography, all has been omitted for the light and its movements to be fully expressed. "Because everything must collapse into nothingness noth·ing·ness n. 1. The condition or quality of being nothing; nonexistence. 2. Empty space; a void. 3. Lack of consequence; insignificance. 4. Something inconsequential or insignificant. if it wants to live in the Being" (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. One and Everything) Traditional photography describes what has happened and records the world in an instant of time. Elinor's work describes the feelings of being part of this world, it speaks of universal notions rather than particular subjects. The works break the surface of reality to reach a consciousness of emotions to return to the essence, an approach that cannot be voiced nor explained, but only felt. As described in Art in America Art in America, published since 1913, is an illustrated monthly art magazine covering the visual art world both in the US and abroad, but concentrating on New York City. , this series liberates the photographic medium from its function. With this public installation, Elinor pushes further the discourse and liberates the billboard from any reference or allure to action; she plainly transforms it, breaks it again and again with the lines, shapes and colors of her lands of light. This installation comprises a number of videos (1 min. to 3 min long) that will run simultaneously on the MTV and JPMorgan Chase screens at the end of each hour. It is the first time that MTV and JPMorgan Chase co-operate and lend their screens for a video installation. MTV HD Screen Schedule - November 1 through December 29, 2006 Located on Broadway between 44th and 45th St. The installation will run 1 min. per hour, 18 hours a day, at the end of each hour. Until Dec. 2 the installation will also run 3 min. per hour, Wednesday through Saturday 5pm to 12am, at the end of each hour. MTV Screen schedule is subject to change JPMorgan Chase Screen Schedule November 1 through November 30, 2006 Located on 7th Ave. and 42nd St. The installation will run 2 min. per hour 24 hours a day at the end of each hour.
