Sandwiched between the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges, DUMBO, one of New York City's most unique and eclectic neighborhoods, offers outstanding views of the Manhattan skyline. It features. historic industrial buildings, cobblestone streets, and turn of the century warehouse buildings being converted into condominiums. DUMBO has become a home to many art galleries and studios, as well as new chic restaurants and retail stores. In addition, high technology/new media firms are scooping up many of the large spaces available in the renovated warehouses in the neighborhood. The building will include four floors of retail and commercial space, with two towers offering 20 residential floors rising above. The building also is slated to offer 280 parking spaces, replacing the number of spaces currently on the site, and adding enough to accommodate the needs of the tenants living in the new building. The building takes an adventurous form that bends and curves to meet zoning restrictions, and to take advantage of available light and views. It blends contextually with the surrounding neighborhood, satisfying the requests of neighbors in DUMBO who have worked with the architects and developers throughout the process. The result is a project that is daring, yet practical and affordable. "It's a unique example of how an architect and a developer can work well with the local community," said architect Greg Pasquarelli. "We met on numerous occasions with neighbors here in DUMBO, and we have implemented. |
