Life boss is Elite winner.

STANDARD Life boss Sandy Crombie was last night named Scotland's Elite Leader of the Year at the 16th Scottish Business Insider Elite awards.

The insurance giants' group chief executive was selected by members of the Elite, who represent 400 business leaders.

Crombie, right, was presented with the main award for his work in demutualising the firm.

Jim McColl, of Clyde Blowers, won the Standard Life Insider Readers' Award.

Bob Keiller, chief executive of Production Services Network, was Businessman of the Year, and Fiona Morton, of Ryden Commercial Property Agents, was Businesswoman of the Year.

Alan Wilson, of the Scottish Council for Development And Industry, was Public Service Leader of the Year, and Arnold Clark's Eddie Hawthorne was Young Business Leader.
