FRANKLIN PARK, Ill.--(BW HealthWire)--April 4, 2001

Life Fitness, the leading manufacturer of a full line of cardiovascular and strength training equipment, today under its ParaBody brand launched the ParaBody 220 Gym System. With its sleek new design, the gym fits conveniently into a six-foot by four-foot space yet offers numerous exercises for an effective total-body workout.

"The 220 Gym System, which provides a variety of intuitive total-body exercise options, is very space-efficient, simple-to-use and a great value," said Dave Gibbons, vice president of marketing, Life Fitness.

The Variable Arc press station (patent pending) on the 220 Gym System presents users with more options to exercise chest, arm, shoulder and back muscles. In its standard position, the press arm provides a traditional fixed path of motion used on conventional home gyms. By simply releasing a pull-pin, each press handle rotates horizontally to change the movement to a natural converging chest press and pec fly. The extended arm pec fly adds chest exercise variety in a safe joint-neutral path of motion that more closely mimics a dumbbell fly movement.

The gym offers two unique seated rowing exercises as well - using an overhand or underhand grip - that comfortably add rear deltoid and upper and lower back movements for ideal muscular balance with the chest exercises. An ankle strap is also standard for hip abduction, adduction and extension exercises.

Ergonomic Design

The pressing and rowing movements are designed to optimally mimic the body's natural path of motion and strength profile, reducing stress on the joints and resulting in a more comfortable, biomechanically correct feel. The handles used for pushing exercises are larger to disperse force more evenly throughout the hand, while the handles used in pulling exercises are smaller for a more secure and comfortable grip.

The ergonomically designed lat bar, which can be used for lat pulldowns, triceps pressdowns and biceps curls, promotes joint-neutral movements. In addition, ergonomic seat pads give maximum support and comfort without impeding movement.

Additional Features

The design of the new 160-pound weight stack features a more stable headplate, which translates to a more smooth, gliding feel. The weight stack pin can be adjusted from either side and features a commercial-quality `T'-handled tethered selector pin. A 50-pound add-on kit and a leg press are optional.

Each gym comes with a wall chart illustrating starting and finishing positions for all major exercises and provides proper form descriptions for each.

Currently available at authorized specialty fitness dealers worldwide, the 220 Gym System has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $1,099. It has a lifetime warranty on the frame, welds and parts, and three years on the pads and cables. ParaBody Gym Line Changes

The introduction of the 220 Gym System is one element in Life Fitness' efforts to enhance its ParaBody line of home gym systems. As part of this endeavor, the 250 and 350 Home Gym Systems have been discontinued, the 400 Home Gym System has been upgraded and renamed the 440 Gym System and the 425 Home Gym System has been upgraded and renamed the 660 Gym System.
